Foster Kittens
Be careful what you wish for. I left this morning celebrating my day off from work by volunteering at our local cats only shelter "Purring at Pantops". It is a part of our (www.caspca.org) Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA. I usually volunteer every Saturday but decided to go in on my day off to help out. Yesterday I stopped by the larger SPCA to see how many kittens they had. And did they ever have the kittens. All kinds, all shapes, all colors. There were so many that I know that all the voluteers don't have the time to give individual time to them, so I registered as a potential foster parent. And today they asked if I could take a momma and some kittens to help socialize them and give them individual care. Of course I said "Yes". Then I thought about the extra bedroom we have and I opted to take two mommas and their babies. I went from from -0- cats this morning and by the afternoon I had 12. They are so cute. One orange mom and 4 male orange babie and one calico mom and 6 babies, 5 black and white and one tabby and white...who is the boss. She is the most adventurous and first to come to me. Tonight should be interesting.

Glenda,
I just read Jan's note and was going to E-mail you about your foster kittens. I am so glad I looked up your blog address to find all this information. You are such a wonderful person! Among the best, & we are so fortunate to have you at Purrin'. Hope to see pictures of the moms & kittens.

Had Kellyn turn the main valve off to stop what might have been a river by morning. Do not use the bathroom or any sink water as you will not get any water. Hopefully, the management company will get right out there tomorrow morning.

> 8) I know, I know... we have a lot of cats at Purrin'. It is very difficult to go to the shelter and not want to bring a dozen adult cats back because there are so many of them too. Some adult cats are in large carriers that are set up in the halls and I feel so sorry for them. BUT, it is a lot better than what would have happened a year ago. Anything under 2lbs. or sick kittens were euthanized. Susanne has put a stop to that and we are a "NO KILL" shelter and there you have it. We have gone from 71 kittens in foster care this time last year to over 300 in foster care and still we need more fosters.
> Ellen and Jeff, Wendy B, Glenda, Nick and Rena and Merrick have litters right now. If any of you could foster a litter, please let me know and I will get you set up. Tell me what you can take...a couple of kittens, a momma and litter, 4 kittens, sick kittens, whatever. They have endless kittens at the shelter that need to get out of there. Their little immune systems are not geared for shelters. Yesterday, I believe there were well over a hundred kittens at the shelter...KITTENS, KITTENS EVERY WHERE. I plan to take a litter of sick ones that are in the sick room upstairs in a room that has no ventilation...It was built as a storage room, so ... If they get well, it takes so much longer and well, I just hate seeing them sitting there with that green goo coming out of their eyes and noses. They are relatively easy to administer medicines to as they are still little...not like an adult cat that would rather relieve you of some skin rather than have medicines put down their throat.

> 9) One last thing...Please let me know if you can help with the decorating of Pantops on Friday, the 14th and/or working the day of the shower, the 15th...The shower is from 9 - 5, so will need to get in there cleaning away early.

> Also, for the month of July...we are doing a two-fers. Two kittens for $ 95.00. Two adult cats for $75.00 A kitten and an adult cat $85.00.
> Would like for us all to wear t-shirts that I will get from the shelter. We wore them at the rummage sale last year.
> They are navy with orange letters. (UVA, of course) They say, "Adopt the Homeless" with cats and dogs above the lettering. If you would rather not, just let me know...otherwise, I will have the shirts for everyone to pick up when they are in next week. That way, people will know immediately that someone in a navy shirt can help them and not have to look for a name tag...which we should wear also.

12 foster kitties! We have 12 fosters too (10 kittens and 2 special-needs adult cats). How old are the kittens? Are they spayed/neutered and old enough to be adopted at the kitten shower?
I want to see them.
I want to see them.
Well hey there MommKatt! - I read about you starting your own blog in one of your SD comments and was curious where it was - I found you! Well, welcome to the blogosphere. Seems that cat blogging is all the rage these days. Who's Tauren Mill?
